—In interviews this week, I made sure to ask everyone why they think UE and USI don’t play every year. Here’s what they had to say.
—Look for more later on the blog regarding the UE-USI exhibition and for where to find live coverage during tomorrow’s Vectren Community Classic game. A news release sent out Friday afternoon by UE said tickets are still available.
—A list released Friday by CBS Sports ranked UE senior Colt Ryan 3rd among its top 30 under-the-radar players, saying: “One of the best shooters in the country, Ryan is a candidate to lead the nation in scoring this season. He is deadly from behind the arc, and is also tough to defend because of his ability to knock down contested shots. Moreover, he uses his 6-foot-5 size to make plays against smaller defenders. Ryan put up more than 20 points per game last year.”
—The first Associated Press basketball poll released Friday ranks Missouri Valley Conference member Creighton 16th. UE foe Notre Dame came in 22nd, and other opponents Murray State, Butler and Northern Iowa received votes.
—After taking an official visit to UE last weekend, Fishers High School guard Jaylon Brown is spending this weekend at Miami (Ohio).
—In a list actually released before the UE women’s soccer team clinched the MVC’s regular-season title last night, three players (Tatiana Pagan, Abby Springer and Taylor Brand) made College Sports Madness’ MVC all-conference teams.
—The UE cross country teams will compete Saturday at the MVC Championships in Normal, Ill. Here’s a preview written around the Aces’ top two men’s runners.
—Men’s and women’s swimming and diving compete at Miami (Ohio) on Friday, and the volleyball team plays at Creighton at 7 p.m. Saturday, women’s swimming travels to Illinois State, men’s soccer heads to Drake for a 7 p.m. start, and volleyball plays Drake at 7 p.m. The men’s soccer program still controls its own destiny as far as a MVC regular-season title.
