—First off, I’m interested in getting fans’ feedback on a possible weekly UE sports chat one afternoon a week during basketball season. It would take place on Cover It Live, the same software I plan to live-blog games starting with UE-Notre Dame (check out an example of that here). Comment below, tweet at me or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d be interested in that sort of thing. We could start next week to talk Aces-Irish hoops.
—Did you know the UE men’s basketball program has graduated 71 consecutive players since 1989? I wrote about that in today’s paper with an NCAA news release out that more Division I basketball players are graduating now than ever.
—The UE women will start a freshman at the point guard spot during Saturday’s noon exhibition against USI, the teams’ first meeting since the 1980s.
—UE’s women’s soccer team plays Indiana State at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semifinals. The Aces won the regular-season MVC title and own the No. 1 seed. Follow on Twitter (@ECP_Lintner) for updates during the match.
—Other sports in action Friday, the first day of UE’s fall homecoming, include swimming and diving against Missouri State at 4 p.m. in the Carson Center, and volleyball hosts Southern Illinois at 7 p.m.
—Prep Hoops TV tweeted a highlight film today of UE commit and Castle High School forward Blake Simmons from the adidas Invitational in July. He can shoot the ball.
—The Ford Center will host a one-year anniversary celebration from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, and Courier & Press reporter John Martin said the Aces will make an appearance. I’ll link to more details when they’re available tomorrow.
—An Evansville company this week won a contract to raze Roberts Stadium, the long-time home of UE basketball. City officials want the facility down by May 1.
—UE listed dates for coach Marty Simmons’ weekly radio shows at Turoni’s by campus, the first of which takes place on Monday.
