UE News and Notes for Nov. 7, 2012

—Thursday’s UE sports chat will start at noon, and I’m planning for it to last a half hour. Things can go longer depending on how it goes. You’ll be able to find it on the blog or by clicking here.

The UE men’s soccer team lost 2-1 Wednesday to Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. Drake freshman Eric Williams came off the bench to score the game-winner with 24 seconds left, a heartbreaking loss that came four days after Creighton knocked off the Aces with the MVC regular-season championship at stake.

Notre Dame announced a ticket deal to Saturday’s UE game for military with an ID. Military members and their families can purchase tickets for $5 at the door in the first of the Aces’ four Coaches vs. Cancer classic games.

—Another Coaches vs. Cancer ticket deal was also announced Wednesday, this one by UE for the Aces’ home games Nov. 15-17. Prices will be discounted by mentioning specific charities at the Carson Center, and $1 will be donated for every ticket scanned.

—Notre Dame named Eric Atkins, Jack Cooley and Scott Martin its captains for the 2012-2013 season. I’ll have plenty more on the Irish, who have  tomorrow afternoon after talking to UE players and coach Marty Simmons about Saturday’s game.

—Mark Emmert of the Des Moines register published a story this week outlining the discrepancies in MVC coaches’ salaries, a topic I’ll address in tomorrow’s paper.
