UE coach Marty Simmons said Monday that senior Lewis Jones (sprained ankle) and sophomore Jordan Nelson (turf toe) both practiced following the Alabama State game and should be available Tuesday when the Aces host Division II Oakland City University.
After going down with the ankle injury, Jones walked off under his own power but didn’t return for the final 19:36 of the Aces’ win over the Hornets.
“He’s fine,” Simmons said Monday on the Missouri Valley’s coaches teleconference.
Nelson practiced sparingly last week but dressed in uniform for the Alabama State game. He didn’t play, however, missing a second straight contest in addition to UE’s loss to Murray State.
“He should be good to go as well,” Simmons said.
Meanwhile, in his fifth game back from a hip pointer injury, senior Colt Ryan scored a season-high 24 points against Alabama State.
Ryan is now the Aces’ leading scorer with 13.1 points per game.
“He gets better and better every day,” Simmons said. “Obviously we had a week of practice here just to work on a lot of fundamentals, and I think it helped him just as it helped all the other guys on the team.”
The rest of Simmons’ roster has a clean bill of health. As the coach often says, “Knock on wood.”
