UE News and Notes for Dec. 20, 2012

—The UE women dropped their seventh straight game Thursday night, 60-50, to Toledo on the Rockets’ home court. The Toledo Blade newspaper previewed the Toledo Invite by talking to former UE coach Tricia Cullop (now with the Rockets) and the chance the Aces took on her at just 29 years old.

—The game marked Memorial High School graduate and Valparaiso transfer Mallory Ladd’s Aces debut. Ladd, a forward, started and recorded a double-double, going for 11 points and as many rebounds.

—The Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame named UE senior Troy Taylor to the Bob Cousy Award watch list for the nation’s top point guard. The current list of 80 players will be narrowed down over the course of the season until a winner is announced during Final Four weekend. Taylor, from Anderson, Ind., leads the Aces with 6.5 rebounds per game and has 42 total assists and 15 steals.

—With Missouri Valley Conference play set to begin before the new year, the MVC published videos of men’s coach Marty Simmons and women’s coach Oties Epps previewing their respective teams’ seasons.

—Ahead of Saturday’s game, Butler coach Brad Stevens previewed his Bulldogs’ meeting with UE. It will mark the 118th contest all-time between the Aces and Bulldogs, former conference rivals.

—I’ll be on UE radio man Lance Wilkerson’s “All About Aces” radio show Friday for a lengthy segment discussing everything from the Butler game to conference realignment. The show airs from 4-5 p.m. on 106.7 FM in Evansville. You can listen online here.

—I’ll also talk UE on the first edition of the MVC Hoops Show, which should air Monday on 91.5 WUEV, where Aces games are broadcast. The interview was recorded today, and I’ll post a time when I find out more over the weekend.

—I received quite a few questions about the all-orange jerseys that UE wore Tuesday against Oakland City and has donned sparingly in the past. Hopefully this answers them.

—The New York Post reported Thursday that the Big East Conference’s seven breakaway Catholic Schools would like to become part of a 12-team league, very much putting Creighton and the MVC in play for future realignment.
