UE News and Notes for Jan. 6, 2013

—You may have noticed this last night, but Colt Ryan is feeling better. His season-high 26 points against Southern Illinois were some evidence of that, though it’s just as much about how Ryan scored, as I wrote for Monday’s paper.

—For more on the Aces’ second straight Missouri Valley Conference win, click here. And don’t miss some great comments from Salukis coach Barry Hinson, who participated in his first game at the Ford Center on Saturday.

—When UE plays at Northern Iowa on Wednesday, the Panthers will be coming off likely their biggest win of the season, a 70-60 victory over Illinois State on the Redbirds’ home court. Look out for some comments from Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson on the game after Monday morning’s MVC conference call.

—And you can typically listen to those conference calls, which the MVC will host at 11 a.m. every Monday through the end of the season, from a link the league typically tweets from its official basketball Twitter account.

—Next up for the Aces after Northern Iowa comes Wichita State which, despite a number of injuries, continues to roll. At 14-1 the Shockers have the best record of any team not in the top 25, though CBS Sports included Wichita State in its Top 25 (and one) published Sunday night — possibly a prelude to Monday’s new set of national polls.

—The UE women, who are off until a game Sunday against Southern Illinois, led MVC favorite Creighton by 16 points on Saturday before falling by double digits themselves. What happened? The Bluejays hit a few 3-pointers.
