UE women get another guard commit

An already large 2013 recruiting class for the UE women’s basketball program grew again over the weekend.

Paris McLeod, a senior point guard from Inkster High School in Detroit, verbally committed to UE on Saturday morning before the Aces knocked off Indiana State 55-54 for their third straight victory.

“They have a great school — players are nice, coaches are nice,” the 5-foot-5 McLeod said. “I really like it.”

McLeod averages about 20 points and eight assists, she said, and earlier this season delivered a triple-double performance — 24 points, 11 steals and 10 assists — in a win that kept her high school team unbeaten.

“They want someone who can handle the ball — a good point guard who can deliver and make plays,” McLeod said. “They thought I was a good match.

“I just like to attack and deliver. Everybody needs to have their hands ready.”

Though McLeod said UE coaches saw her play last year on the AAU circuit, Inkster coach Dwayne Scott only recently got her back in contact with the Aces’ staff. A decision soon followed as McLeod, a two-star prospect at ESPN.com, committed to Evansville over Delaware, Canisius and Oakland University in Michigan.

McLeod plans to sign a letter of intent in April, making her pledge official along with Hamilton Heights (Ind.) High School guard Dakota Weatherford, who also committed to Evansville within the last week. The backcourt duo joins a class that already includes four others who signed in November.

At six players now, Evansville coach Oties Epps’ 2013 class appears to be nearing its limit. The Aces graduate four seniors after this season, leaving them with eight players on the roster. Division I women’s programs are allowed 15 scholarships.
