UE News and Notes for Sept. 29, 2012

With basketball programs soon moving to the new practice facility, the Carson Center’s main gym belongs to the volleyball team, along with this new sport-specific scoreboard.

—Freshman Emma Roberson, whose career high in kills coming into Friday was one, tallied 13 as the Aces’ volleyball team came back to beat Drake 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12). UE hosts Creighton at 5 p.m. today. Follow me on Twitter (@ECP_Lintner) for updates from the Carson Center.

I wrote a bit about the men’s soccer team, which hosts Oral Roberts at 2 p.m. Sunday, earlier on the blog. The Aces have lost three straight since a 4-0 start and pretty much need a victory tomorrow if they want to remain in the running for an NCAA tournament at-large bid. The women’s soccer team also plays tomorrow — on the road at Missouri State.

Junior Kelby Jenkins posted a personal-best 17:54.26 in the 5K today at the Greater Louisville Classic, pacing the UE women’s cross country team as it finished 11th out of 43 teams competing. The Aces men were 13th out of 46.

—Sophomore Kelsey Edens won her first college match Friday during the women’s tennis team’s trip to Austin Peay. The Aces went 3-4 in singles action, with three of the four losses coming in super tiebreakers.

—UE’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams open their seasons Sunday against Butler in Fishers, Ind. They competed in an intra-squad meet today in preparation.

—And finally, I’ve never been to the Evansville Fall Festival and wasn’t sure I’d go this year. Then I saw the food list. Any recommendations?
