UE senior Ned Cox sat out of the Aces’ practice Tuesday afternoon but did show up in his orange jersey and without any visible braces or bandages on his injured left foot.

“I’ll be doing some stuff on the side,” Cox said of his basketball activity a day before UE plays at Wichita State.

Cox landed hard on the foot during last weekend’s game at Wright State, worsening a case of plantar fasciitis he’s dealt with for much of this season.

Coach Marty Simmons said Monday that Cox, the Aces’ second-leading scorer, is now day to day with the condition. Cox did back up Simmons’ claim that he’s responding well to treatment.

“The process is going great,” the 6-foot-1 guard said. “I’m making big improvements day by day. It’s just like everyone’s been saying – day to day until I get to a point pain-wise where I can tolerate it in game activity. Then I’ll be back. Right now it’s looking good, and I’m going to be back soon.”

Cox averages 11.4 points per game and has started every contest this season. If he can’t play Wednesday, freshman D.J. Balentine will pick up the slack at the shooting guard spot along with sophomore Jordan Nelson.
