UE News and Notes for Sept. 19, 2013

–The upset of No. 6 Saint Louis is still fresh in people’s minds. After beating the Billikens and Georgia State last week, the men’s soccer team received votes in two national polls this week. Evansville received seven votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire National Poll, which puts them at No. 36. Saint Louis, originally sixth in that poll, dropped to No. 10 after the loss to UE.

The Aces also received seven votes in the Soccertimes.com College Coaches Poll, in which head coach Mike Jacobs votes. Saint Louis dropped from No. 7 to No. 13 in that after losing to UE.

Another MVC school is also receiving love from the polls. Bradley men’s soccer received votes in both polls after upsetting No. 1 UConn in Storrs, Conn., last week. In the NSCAA/Continental Tire poll, the Braves received three votes and in the coaches’ poll they garnered 11.

–The volleyball team is heading into Valley play this week, and I talked to head coach Manolo Concepcion and Rachel TenHoor about what they’ve learned from non-conference play and what adjustments they’re making for today’s paper.

–The MVC golfer of the week poll came out yesterday with a recap of how conference teams fared in tournaments over the weekend.

–From around the MVC: Women’s tennis will return to Missouri State for the 2014-15 academic year. “Bringing back women’s tennis is a good first step,” said MSU Director of Athletics Kyle Moats in a release. “We have a long tennis tradition at Missouri State, an active tennis community and great facilities in Springfield. Anytime you can expand your athletics program, it’s a good thing, and this move will really help our department and the University.”
