UE wins second-consecutive MVC All-Academic Award

For the second consecutive year, the University of Evansville received the Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic Award.

Between all 13 conference sports, the Aces finished the 2012-13 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.283. UE received the award given to the institution that has the highest grade-point average in the conference at its academic breakfast on Wednesday.

“Winning the MVC All-Academic Award for two consecutive years underscores just how much UE is committed to the intellectual growth of its student-athletes,” said University of Evansville President Thomas Kazee in a release by the athletic department.  “We compete at the highest intercollegiate level, to be sure, but even more fundamentally we challenge our student-athletes to succeed as students.  We know that this growth will serve them in remarkable ways in their lives after graduation.”

Over 80 percent of Evansville’s 213 student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 GPA in the spring 2013 semester, while 46.9 percent received at least a 3.5 GPA and 7.5 percent earned a perfect 4.0.

“What is important is to have success when we are competing on the field and in the classroom and we are doing great in that regard,” said Athletic Director John Stanley in the release.  “When we have 80 percent of our student body making grades of 3.0 or above, it is hard work and I am very proud of what our student-athletes have been able to do in earning this award for the second year in a row.”

The women’s tennis team, both men’s and women’s cross country programs, the volleyball team, both men’s and women’s soccer squads, and the women’s swimming team were all recognized by national organizational bodies for outstanding work in the classroom.
