UE News and Notes for Oct. 11, 2013

–The UE volleyball team is hoping to get back on the winning track this weekend, as two more MVC matches are on its slate. The Aces return to Carson Center for matches against Northern Iowa and Drake.

–The women’s tennis team’s fall continues. After a good showing at the MVC Individual Championships, the squad is heading to the Eastern Kentucky Invitational today and tomorrow.

–You know basketball season is here when Hoopfest is right around the corner. The annual kickoff to the basketball season will be held at the Ford Center next week: Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m. The event is free, and fans will be able to get autographs of players and watch team introductions, scrimmages and shooting contests.

–Fans are also able to vote for a men’s and women’s MVC Preseason All-Conference teams through the MVC website. Voting is open through Oct. 25, and the teams will be announced Oct. 30 as a part of the 2013 MVC Basketball Tipoff event. Links to vote can be found here.

–Curious as to how Kelby Jenkins is faring about halfway through the cross country season? I talked with her earlier this week about her season so far, what she needs to do to break the program’s 5k record, and what her goals are moving into tournament time.

–From around the MVC: CBSSports put out its “Five Mid-Majors on the Rise” today, and a Valley team was on the list (for good reason). Indiana State is a team to look out for this season, according to the website, and most experts have picked the Sycamores to finish second in the conference to Wichita State — they’re the Shockers’ biggest competition for the title.
