UE News and Notes for Oct. 17, 2013

–The women’s soccer team lost for the first time since Sept. 4, as the Aces dropped a 1-0 Valley contest to Indiana State on Wednesday night. It was the Sycamores’ first conference win, and UE falls to 2-1-1 in the conference. The game’s lone goal came in the 38th minute.

–Hoopfest is tonight at the Ford Center:

–Nick Schroder was named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week after scoring what turned out to be the game-winning goal against Loyola on Saturday. The junior’s goal was his first of the season.

–From around the MVC: Fresh off a Final Four appearance, the Wichita State men’s basketball team is ranked No. 16 by the USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released today. The Shockers garnered 233 votes, three more than No. 17 Marquette and 25 less than No. 15 Virginia Commonwealth.

Ben Jacobson of Northern Iowa is the MVC representative in the coaches poll.
