UE News and Notes for Oct. 29, 2013

–NBC Sports posted its MVC men’s basketball preview today, and the website has Evansville finishing No.9 above Illinois State. NBC has obvious favorite Wichita State winning the conference, with senior forward Cleanthony Early as their preseason Player of the Year.

–After a career game against Bradley, senior libero Katie Klages was named MVC Defensive Player of the Week. Klages recorded a career-high 35 digs against the Braves while matching a season-high five assists in the match.

–Simone Busby was named MVC Goalkeeper of the Week after posting her sixth shutout of the season against Western Kentucky on Sunday. The Aces played to a 0-0 2OT draw against the Lady Toppers, but Busby made five saves, including diving to tip away a ball in the second overtime to prevent a potential game-winner.

–From Around the MVC: The Illinois State women’s soccer team claimed the outright conference championship after beating Drake, 3-0, on Sunday. UE currently sits fourth in the conference.

–The women’s golf team sits in second place after the first round of the Charles Braun Invitational, while Cathy Doyle is tied for third after posting a one-over 72 yesterday. The squad will wrap up the final round today.

–The men’s soccer team travels to Lipscomb for its final non-conference game of the season tonight after posting a 1-0 win at Central Arkansas on Saturday.

–From Around the MVC: CollegeInsider.com released a Mid-Major Top 25 in women’s basketball, and one Valley team made the list: Wichita State. You can view the complete top 25 here.
