Boncourt and BBC Monthey played the opening game of their Swiss professional basketball league seasons Saturday in a matchup that featured two former UE players.
Shy Ely, runner-up in Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year voting in 2009, scored a game-high 24 points for Boncourt in its 87-71 victory.
Holmes, who played a stint on a Mexican professional team right out of college, was second among BBC Monthey scorers with 13 points.
Both former Aces made their European debuts in the game played in front of an announced crowd of 783.
Holmes averaged 11.3 points per game, second on the team behind Colt Ryan, last season during his senior year at UE. Ely played three seasons in the NBA’s Developmental League before signing with his Swiss team.
Basketball database Eurobasket lists a number of Aces who have continued their playing careers overseas.
