UE News and Notes for Oct. 19, 2012

—I’ll be on the radio at 4 p.m. Friday with UE play-by-play man Lance Wilkerson and his weekly “All About Aces” show. You can listen on 106.7 FM in Evansville or online here.

—I found a kid with purple hair at Hoopfest and talked to him for my story in today’s paper. For the basketball portion of the evening, here’s more on the blog.

—UE has reportedly offered a scholarship to Columbus North High School sophomore Josh Speidel, marking the team’s first offer for the 2015 class and Speidel’s first offer to any school.

—In other recruiting news, Fishers High School senior guard Jaylon Brown will be on an official visit to UE today and tomorrow. Here’s more on Brown from the last time I wrote about him.

—Both soccer teams play important Missouri Valley Conference games this weekend. The women, playing at Creighton at 4:30 Saturday, need a win to maintain a chance at an MVC title. Drake controls its destiny with two matches left. The men host Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. Saturday.

—UE’s volleyball hosts Missouri State at 7 p.m. Friday and Wichita State at 5 p.m. Saturday. Despite a 2-7 conference record, the Aces remain within reach of sixth place in the MVC and a bid in the conference tournament.
