—Colt Ryan will appear in a Missouri Valley Conference Google Hangout from 1:45-2:45 p.m. Thursday. It’s essentially an online chat where fans will be able to ask questions and interact with the UE senior. Signup to Google+ is required to participate.
—The MVC will hold its media day teleconference a week from today to coincide with its release of preseason polls and an all-conference team. This year marks the first in which the MVC hasn’t had its men’s basketball media day in person, a move that makes much sense in 2012.
—Following an official visit to UE this past weekend, Fishers High School guard Jaylon Brown will see Miami (Ohio) this coming weekend, reports Trevor Andershock of the Indiana Basketball Source. Brown has said he wants to commit and sign during the NCAA’s early period, which starts in November.
—In case you missed it in Sunday’s paper, I wrote about the old National Guard Armory on UE’s campus and how it’s being used now for athletics.
—Athletic director John Stanley said UE will host a “Fan Fest” from 2-4 p.m. outside of the Ford Center Nov. 3 similar to what the university held before the Butler game last year. The Fan Fest starts after the UE women’s team’s noon exhibition against USI. The UE men then host Illinois-Springfield at 4 p.m.
—The MVC on Monday named men’s soccer goalkeeper Eric Teppen its defensive player of the week. Teppen posted two shutouts last week — both in 1-0 wins — to run his scoreless streak to three matches. He hasn’t allowed a goal in 225:56.
—Emma Roberson tallied double-digit kills in consecutive matches last week for the UE volleyball team, and the MVC recognized her Monday by naming Roberson its freshman of the week.
