Colorado State senior Pierce Hornung, the Rams’ leading rebounder, will not be available Saturday against UE, according to a Denver Post report.
Hornung was hit across the face last Saturday in a game against Washington and already missed one contest this week with concussion-like symptoms. He averages 12 rebounds per game, 7.5 points and has a team-high 10 steals on the season.
Hornung isn’t the only player on first-year coach Larry Eustachy’s roster who’s dealing with injury. Senior forward Greg Smith broke his nose in a recent practice and, after having it reset, will wear a mask against the Aces when the teams tip at 3:30 p.m. in Fort Collins, Colo.
“We haven’t really been able to get them all together,” Eustachy told the Denver Post. “So what we’ve done based on what we have is impressive.”
The Rams (5-0) are receiving votes in both national polls and have a matchup looming Wednesday against 19th-ranked, in-state rival Colorado. UE (4-2) meanwhile is seeking its fifth straight win as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge in the series’ final year.
