Former New Mexico commitment Troy Spears, a 6-foot-4 guard/forward at Martinsville High School, tweeted Friday that he’s “heading down to watch Evansville’s practice.”
After pulling his New Mexico pledge in July, reportedly because of location, the class of 2014 player Spears also tweeted in August that he was visiting Evansville for an Aces basketball camp.
Spears originally attended Park Tudor High School before transferring to Martinsville.
The Indiana Basketball Source ranks spears 20th among 2014 prospects in the state and lists interest from Butler and Xavier in addition to UE.
“Very good all-around offensive player,” the website says. “Shoots the ball well, moves well without the ball, and is good off the catch-and-shoot. Troy has good size but isn’t necessarily a great athlete. He is a good rebounder on both ends of the court from the guard spot, works very hard on the glass.”
Spears plays for the Indiana Elite AUU program alongside Ernie Duncan, the recently de-committed guard from Harrison High School, who is rated 13th among juniors on the Indiana Basketball Source.
No recruiting services list scholarship offers to Spears since he reopened his recruitment this summer.
