Statement from UE coach Marty Simmons sent Friday regarding redshirt sophomore Jordan Jahr:

“Jordan Jahr will no longer be a member of the men’s basketball team at UE but will complete the spring semester at the university. This is a private matter that was handled between Jordan and the University and we ask that the privacy of all parties is respected at this time. We appreciate Jordan’s contributions to our program and wish him the best of luck in the future.”

Jahr tweeted Friday after the announcement, “To all the people wondering I left on my own accord and was my decision.” He’s since deleted that tweet.

The 6-foot-6 froward averaged 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.4 minutes per game this season.

Simmons suspended the Austin, Texas, native before Tuesday’s overtime win against Northern Iowa for a violation of team rules. When Jahr didn’t practice Thursday, Simmons said, “We’re still working through it.”

The former Air Force Prep School attendee Jahr was in his third year on the team. After averaging 3.8 points per game as a freshman in 2010-2011, he broke his foot eight games into last season and took a medical redshirt.

Jahr has started five games this season, all in non-conference play, and scored a season-high 13 points Nov. 17 in UE’s win over Western Illinois.

With four seniors set to graduate after this season, the redshirt sophomore Jahr would have been the most experienced player back on next year’s team that will now feature no seniors and four juniors.
