When the UE baseball program announced its 2013 signees Wednesday, coach Wes Carroll thanked “Coach Bachmann, Coach Pascoe and Coach Fick for all of their efforts in putting together another great recruiting class…”
That latter two coaches were never formally announced, but Carroll confirmed that Andy Pascoe and Cody Fick — both former UE players — are indeed on the Aces’ staff this year.
Pascoe, who completed his college career in 2010, moved from UE’s volunteer assistant position to become Carroll’s second assistant coach. And Fick, drafted out of college by the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization in 2011, took Pascoe’s old spot on the staff.
Fick started his coaching career this past summer, also for a team he played with, the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League.
“He’s got that ‘it’ factor,” Carroll said. “He’s got a good feel for the game and that competitive nature, so definitely as far as being on this side of the fence so to speak, he’s going to be a heck of a coach.”
Over the summer Carroll also added pitching coach Ben Bachmann, formerly of Miami (Ohio), to his staff.
The new assistants replace former coaches Marc Wagner and Mike Gilner.
