The Golden Griffins, out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, advanced Saturday with an overtime win against Youngstown State. The Aces, of course, rallied past Eastern Kentucky in the second half at the Physical Activities Center.
Tuesday’s game will be played at Caisius’ on-campus Koessler Athletic Center (capacity 2,196) in Buffalo, N.Y.
Junior Billy Baron leads three Golden Griffins guards averaging double figures at 17.1 points per game. Senior Harold Washington adds 13.8 points and senior Isaac Sosa 11.7.
Junior Chris Manhertz leads Canisius’ rebounding efforts with 8.8 boards a game to go with 7.6 points.
The Aces and Golden Griffins share one common opponent. While UE lost to Buffalo 56-50 on Nov. 15 in its second game of the season, Canisius beat the Bulls five days later by a 71-64 score.
The Golden Griffins’ postseason wins in the CIT are the program’s first since 1995.
Led by 26th-year coach Jim Baron, Canisius hits 3-pointers at a 38.4 percent clip — a rate that leads the MAAC and is among the top 10 in the country.
