As it turns out, UE will stay in town for Saturday’s second-round CollegeInsider.com Tournament game – just not on its regular home court.
Evansville IceMen hockey games scheduled this weekend moved the Aces’ 12:30 p.m. Saturday tipoff against Eastern Kentucky to the Physical Activities Center on the University of Southern Indiana’s campus.
General admission tickets – all are $15 – go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Center.
The Aces won the last time they played at the 2,278-seat PAC in a 2011 College Basketball Invitational game against Hofstra.
UE’s challenge will be much stiffer this time.
Out of the Ohio Valley Conference, Eastern Kentucky (25-9) entered the week with a No. 69 ratings percentage index, and that was before the Colonels beat Gardner-Webb by a 69-62 score on the road in their first-round CIT game Tuesday.
Three players average double figures for coach Jeff Neubauer, led by junior Glenn Cosey’s 15.1 points per game and 14.8 from senior Mike DiNunno.
The Aces improved to 19-14 on Tuesday, moving onto the CIT’s second round with an 84-72 victory over Tennessee State at the Ford Center.
“We need to get better, and a lot of us have ambitions to keep playing,” said senior Colt Ryan. “All of us are still in it full tilt.”
EKU split its regular-season meetings with the Tigers, also an OVC member.
UE is a win away from 20 for the first time since 1999, and the Bateville, Ind., native Ryan needs 33 more points to tie Larry Humes atop the program’s all-time scoring list.
Castle graduate Eric Stutz, now a sophomore at EKU, has started in all 34 games for the Colonels. He averages 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds.
Capacity at the PAC shouldn’t be a problem, as Tuesday’s game against Tennessee State drew an announced 2,324 to the Ford Center.
