–Evansville men’s basketball target Josh Speidel has picked up another offer. Illinois Chicago offered the Indy Elite big man back on August 11, according to 247Sports, after attending their camp. It is the only other offer he holds besides the Aces’.  According to his Twitter, Speidel also visited Northern Kentucky with Columbus North’s Elliott Welmer, though nothing has been reported elsewhere. Welmer’s 247Sports recruiting page listed his attendance to the NKU camp on August 17, but nothing has been added about Speidel.

–Friday sports: the women’s soccer team hosts its first regular-season game vs. Murray State at Arad McCutcheon Stadium at 6pm, and the men’s soccer team will head to Nashville to play Belmont in its first exhibition match at 5pm.

–A preview of tonight’s women’s soccer game is in the paper. I talked to head coach Krista McKendree and senior captain Stephanie Thompson about what the team has learned from its first two exhibition games and the success they’ve had against Murray State in the past.

–From around the MVC: Southern Illinois-Edwardsville goalkeeper John Berner is one of 30 finalists for the men’s soccer Senior CLASS Award. The conference posted a brief about the honor on its website.

–Look for a women’s basketball story in the next few days, as I’ll be talking to Oties Epps
