Lots of UE games yesterday, and many good results for the Aces. Here’s the roundup:
–Women’s soccer beat UT Martin, 3-0, yesterday behind a good offensive performance. Stephanie Thompson, Emily Griebel and Kayla Smith tallied goals, leading the Aces, which had 10 shots on goal in the game.
–Volleyball won its first match of the season, beating Murray State in straight sets in the opening match of the North Carolina Central Tournament. Rachel TenHoor led the Aces with 13 kills as they won all three sets 26-24, 25-22, 25-15.
–Though not a win, the men’s soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Massachusetts yesterday in the Grand Prairie Classic. The game went into double overtime, as neither team could find the back of the net. The Aces tallied 11 shots on goal to UMass’ 3.
–The men’s and women’s cross country teams open their season at the UE Mid-American Opener this morning. Senior Kelby Jenkins is going for another program record this season — the women’s 5k record — and a spot in the NCAA Cross Country National Championships, and she’ll start down that path today. I wrote about her college career until this point for today’s paper.
–ICYMI: The men’s basketball team released its preseason schedule yesterday. Highlighting the tough slate is Indiana and Butler. The Aces play four teams that won or shared conference championships last year, and will play 10 of the 15 games at home.
–From around the MVC (football): North Dakota State upset Kansas State in last night’s thriller, 24-21. Most interesting tweet from that game last night?
Kansas State paid North Dakota State $350,000 for this home game. Kansas St is going to lose.
