—I featured UE senior Ned Cox in Friday’s paper ahead of the Aces-Creighton game, which will present another chance for the senior guard to score while having to stop a high-profile perimeter opponent.
—An important factor in how UE will perform during MVC play? Its two contributing freshmen, who will experience that grind for the first time.
—I took some questions this week from Creighton website White and Blue Review, which is jam packed with information on the Bluejays. Check it out.
—Illinois State’s Jackie Carmichael is the MVC’s player of the week and Indiana State’s Manny Arop the newcomer of the week. The MVC also put out its weekly notebook on Thursday, while Rush The Court published its MVC conference check-in.
—Bowl/bracket guru Jerry Palm, of CBSSports.com, placed three MVC teams in his first bracket projection this season. Palm has Creighton a four seed, Wichita State a six and Illinois State an 11. Interestingly enough, he projects the Shockers as league champion over the Bluejays.
—Creighton senior Josh Jones spoke this week about the heart condition that’s ended his playing career. The Omaha, Neb., native has drawn support through Twitter and tribute videos since announcing he’s done playing for the Bluejays.
—Wichita State beat writer Paul Suellentrop took a look at the Shockers’ injuries as they return to practice before opening MVC play against Northern Iowa.
—In least surprising news of the week, Northern Iowa freshman Chris Olivier has officially left the team. Olivier didn’t travel with the team on its basketball trip to the Bahamas in November and played in just one game.
