—After leading by 11 points early, the UE women (8-16, 6-7 Missouri Valley Conference) were routed by first-place Wichita State on the Shockers’ home floor Thursday: 68-49 at Koch Arena. Senior Samantha Heck scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting and freshman Laura Friday added a career-high 12 points, but the Aces’ MVC record dipped below .500 for the first time nonetheless.

—The UE women played in Wichita, Kan., during the city’s second-largest snow storm (that according to The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore). The white stuff produced at least one unique experiences for the Aces, who found themselves pushing the team bus out of the hotel parking lot before Thursday morning’s shootaround.

—UE’s BracketBusters opponent for a 1 p.m. Saturday game, Wright State, has won four of five games to sit 18-9 since the pairing was announced earlier this month. The Raiders will play the Aces without leading scorer Cole Darling (11.3 ppg), who’s out with injury. Second-leading scorer, point guard Reggie Arceneaux (9.7 ppg), is also questionable as he comes back from a concussion suffered nine days ago.

—Bobby Hunter, the nation’s leading scorer in the junoir college ranks at 25.9 points per game, tweeted earlier this week where he’s thinking about making recruiting visits: UE, Murray State, Iona, Central Florida, Florida Atlantic and Portland State.

—UE senior Andy Chinn, one of the Aces’ three walk-ons, is among the Division I leaders in playing games without recording a statistic. It’s called “Club Trillion,” a term coined by former Ohio State walk-on Mark Titus.

—SI.com’s Seth Davis dedicated some space in his weekly “Hoop Thoughts” column to UE student Bryce Weiler, who earned some air time during the Aces’ recent ESPN U broadcasts.

—If UE keeps doing what it did Wednesday night, the Aces won’t have to worry about finishing worse than sixth in the final Missouri Valley Conference standings. But here are the tiebreaker scenarios anyway for UE, which figures to finish fifth or sixth in the league.

—Off a 1-2 season-opening series at Arkansas-Little Rock, UE’s baseball team returns to the Natural State this weekend for a three-game set against preseason No. 1 Arkansas. Game times are 3 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. All will be broadcast by WUEV 91.5 FM.

—The conference realignment saga continues now thanks to an “A Jersey Guy” report Thursday. In it, writer Mark Blaudschun says it’s between Richmond (favored by eastern schools) and the MVC’s Creighton (with westward bias) for the final spot in the Catholic 7 league.

—CBS Sports’ college basketball experts identified two MVC fan bases — Creighton and Wichita State — among the nation’s best heading into this year’s NCAA tournament.

—Saint Louis has quite the interim leader — former UE coach Jim Crews — and scored a big win over No. 24 Virginia Commonwealth earlier this week. The Billikens are 42nd in the RPI and in ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi’s latest bracket as a nine seed.

—UE’s softball team, which got off to an 0-5 start last weekend, heads to Mississippi this weekend for the Jackson State Tournament.

—The Aces’ women’s tennis team earned a midweek, 5-2 victory Wednesday at Murray State after taking five of six singles matches.
