—Now that senior Samantha Heck and sophomore Mallory Ladd no longer play against each other all the time, they’ve made a pretty good team for the UE women’s basketball program. The Aces host Southern Illinois at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first half of a UE hoops doubleheader.

—The feature event Sunday at the Ford Center brings a ranked opponent to the Ford Center for the first time this season. It marks the Aces’ fourth opportunity this season to beat a ranked foe, and Wichita State enters with three starters out because of injuries.

—Sunday’s games at the Ford Center are being played as part of UE’s “Youth Basketball Day,” where kids wearing youth basketball jerseys (and their families) can get into both the men’s and women’s games for $5. Kids will be allowed to shoot around post-game.

—Zane Clodfelter, voice of Harrison High School sports and the Evansville Otters, tweeted this photo of what’s left as crews demolish Roberts Stadium. The space will eventually end up as a park.

—UE will be the spotlight team on this weekend’s MVC Hoops show, which airs locally at 11:45 a.m. Sunday on WUEV 91.5 FM (before the women’s broadcast). Interviews feature Aces senior Colt Ryan and myself.

—In the only Missouri Valley Conference basketball action of the night, Doug McDermott led Creighton with 39 points as the Bluejays beat Missouri State 74-52.

—Speaking of Creighton, check out this column from the Omaha World-Herald’s Dirk Chatelain. At some point, I’m sure the rest of the MVC wouldn’t mind playing Nebraska rather than the Bluejays, too.

—UE soccer coach Mike Jacobs had the honor of presenting the Hermann Trophy to Collegiate Soccer Player of the Year Patrick Mullins, of Maryland, at Friday night’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America banquet in St. Louis.

—The UE women’s swimming and diving team competes Saturday against Vanderbilt in Nashville.
