—The UE women shot 31.9 percent from the field and committed 20 turnovers Sunday against Wichita State but still had a chance to beat the Shockers. A bad bounce played a part in ending the Aces’ four-game winning streak.
—Coach Oties Epps’ most telling quote after the game: “There are no moral victories with this group.” UE, much improved from when it won just five games all of last season, heads into a 6 p.m. Thursday game at Bradley sitting tied for third in the Missouri Valley Conference behind Wichita State and Creighton.
—UE sophomore Mallory Ladd missed her first free throw Sunday, ending her consecutive made foul shots streak at 44. Ladd missed her first free throw attempt after becoming eligible back in December but then made every one until the Wichita State game.
—Two weeks ago, the UE men were second in the MVC standings and championship scenarios were under discussion. That’s no longer after Saturday’s 67-62 loss at Illinois State. But the Aces never stopped working on themselves, which they’ll continue doing amid recent struggles.
—Following the Illinois State loss, UE was 100th in ESPN’s RPI on Sunday and 109th in the BPI. Tuesday’s opponent, Northern Iowa, is 96th in the RPI and 68th in the BPI.
—The Panthers (11-10, 4-5 MVC) lost Saturday to Indiana State on a controversial call. UE won at Northern Iowa earlier this season, and Tuesday’s game will mark the Aces’ first repeat foe in conference play.
—The MVC’s seating chart for Arch Madness is viewable here. UE’s sections are, as expected, small but well-positioned. And all that blue? It will be a home environment for Creighton, which pre-sold a record number of tickets.
