—I wrote a follow-up story from UE’s perspective this week on a report published in the Des Moines Register regarding Missouri Valley Conference coaches’ salaries. The Aces are up against larger programs, namely Creighton, which pays coach Doug McDermott a base salary seven times as much as UE coach Marty Simmons makes.
—A news release sent from Castle High School on Thursday confirmed that senior Blake Simmons, son of Marty Simmons, plans to sign a letter of intent next week.

—College basketball blog Rush The Court published its MVC season preview Thursday and tabbed the Aces as low as I’ve seen them anywhere: eighth.
—UE received three votes in the first CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, which actually places the Aces 58th on the list compiled weekly during the season by various coaches at small-conference schools.
—Sophomore Sophomore Nick Schroeder’s placement on the all-MVC men’s soccer second team highlighted nine Aces’ appearances on the various all-conference listings, which can be viewed here in full. Drake’s last-minute goal Wednesday ended UE’s season in the first round of the MVC tournament.
