–The women’s basketball team opens its season with Eastern Illinois tonight at the Ford Center. A new offense for the Aces means new surprises for the opponents, but the Panthers have a new coaching staff. Read my preview in today’s paper.

–Coming off a quarterfinal penalty-kick win, the women’s soccer team takes on top-seeded Illinois State and recently named MVC Player of the Year Rachel Tejada. The Redbirds knocked UE out of last year’s conference tournament in the semifinals, so the Aces are hoping for a better outcome this year.

–The MVC all-conference awards were handed out last night, and five Aces received recognition. Senior Stephanie Thompson was named to the All-MVC First Team for the second straight year. Junior Taylor Brand and sophomore Simone Busby received second-team honors, junior Tatiana Pagan was an honorable mention, and freshman Bronwyn Boswell was named to the all-freshman team.

–Men’s soccer junior Kevin Schafer received the MVC Leadership & Service Award on Wednesday, one of 10 honorees this fall.

–The volleyball team travels to Northern Iowa and Drake this weekend, taking on the first-place Panthers and the last-place Bulldogs.

–The swimming and diving team goes to Illinois to face Illinois State and Eastern Illinois after good showings in last weekend’s meets.
