—I talked to about half the team and coach Marty Simmons at today’s UE men’s basketball media day. Look for stories in the paper through the weekend and a sampling of some quotes here.
—Nothing incredibly newsworthy came out of media day, but I got more details on Egidijus Mockevicius’ way to Evansville per look-alike and teammate Rokas Cesnulevicius. And NCAA expert John Infante weighed in a bit on Mockevicius’ eligibility.
—I’ll appear on UE play-by-play man Lance Wilkerson’s weekly “All About Aces” radio show tomorrow near the end of the 4 o’clock hour. The show starts at 4 p.m. on ESPN 106.7, which streams online here.
—ESPN’s Jason King posted an analysis Thursday breaking down non-conference schedules for each Missouri Valley Conference team. King ranked UE’s slate a 9/10 in terms of difficulty and wrote, “This schedule gives an improving Evansville program a chance to take that ‘next step.'”
—Some regular suspects among UE opponents made NBC Sports’ list of mid-major all-Americans: Creighton’s Doug McDermott, Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan and Illinois State’s Jackie Carmichael. Somewhat surprisingly was Colt Ryan not even making honorable mention.
—The NCAA clarified its stance on using Instagram for recruiting purposes. It turns out filters on photos are OK so long as content isn’t distorted.
—The only UE sport in action on Friday is the volleyball team at Northern Iowa which, before losing to Creighton last Friday, had won 59 straight MVC regular-season matches. Live stats for the match can be followed here.
