Not too many home games for UE, but here’s the weekend slate:
–The first fall sport to kick off MVC play is the volleyball team. The Aces travel to Illinois State on Friday for their first conference match and wrap up the weekend on Saturday at Indiana State. I wrote about how intra-squad competition has helped prepare UE for matches in Thursday’s paper.
–The men’s soccer team hosts the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic this weekend, with matches scheduled for today and Sunday. New Jersey Institute of Technology, Eastern Illinois, and Green Bay come to Evansville for the tournament. The Aces will face NJIT tonight at 7:30 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
I wrote about how Faik Hajderovic’s role has changed a bit this season, and how that’ll help the offense that’s finally heating up for today’s paper.
–The women’s soccer team goes on its first true road trip of the season as they travel to Eastern Kentucky today and Bowling Green on Sunday. I talked to head coach Krista McKendree about this weekend, and I’ll be posting a blog with her thoughts later today, so check back for that.
–Men’s and women’s cross country travels to Bloomington today for the IU Intercollegiate. Races start at 2:30 p.m.
–Mark Anthony Gonzalez was very popular this week. Not only did he win numerous Player of the Week awards and have a story about him in Wednesday’s paper, but he was also named Vectren Student-Athlete of the Week, with an interview here.
–I’ll have a men’s basketball story for Sunday’s paper, so keep an eye out for that. I’ll be focusing on how the squad has improved team unity and leadership both on and off the court.
–From around the MVC: Wichita State got the season’s first MVC volleyball win yesterday with a 3-0 sweep over Missouri State.
